The Russian military approached the Energodar checkpoint in the Zaporizhia region. This is where the Zaporizhzhya NPP is located - the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.
“Employees of the nuclear power plant set out to prevent the aggressor's army from entering,” said Andriy Tuz, a spokesman for the NPP's press service.
For his part, Energodar Mayor Dmytro Orlov noted that a meeting with opponents had taken place.
“We have proved the position that ZNPP and the city are under reliable protection. Residents will not let them into the city one step. They heard and went to prove to their leadership. Next meeting at 15:00 at the same place. But everything can change at any moment! Be prepared! We are going home now,” he said.
Adviser to the Interior Minister Anton Gerashchenko warned that an accident could occur, such as at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant or Fukushima.
"The shells will lie next to the nuclear power plant. They will not be able to penetrate the concrete shell of the reactor, but will accurately damage transformers, turbines and other equipment necessary for the safe operation of nuclear power plants. Russian generals - change your mind! Do not create conditions for a new Chernobyl! Radiation does not know nationalities, one does not spare anyone!” he said.
