Canada has announced new sanctions against ten key employees of two major Russian companies in the energy sector - Rosneft and Gazprom. This was announced by Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie, writes liga.net referring to the press service of the Government of Canada.

This statement says that these measures are designed to influence Russia's leadership to stop violating Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity..

"Canada conducts these actions with its international partners and allies in solidarity with the government and people of Ukraine. Consultations will continue with partners on further sanctions if Russia continues its aggression against Ukraine," the statement said.

Let us remind you that earlier, Canada implemented sanctions against members of the Russian Parliament who voted for recognition of the independence of separate areas of Donetsk and Luhansk areas, a ban on operations with sovereign debt of Russia, and sanctions against two big Russian banks. Also, sanctions were implemented against 58 people and organizations related to Russia; the Russian political elite and their family members, members of the Security Council, and Wagner's private military company. Canada also revoked import permits from the Russian Federation.

The sanctions are expected to become effective in the coming days.

"Canada is a staunch supporter of Ukraine and its people. We will continue to respond to every act of aggression commited by Russia's leaders to weaken its ability to wage war. However, as the horrific events in Ukraine continue to unfold before our eyes, it is clear that more needs to be done. "Those who help and incite Russian aggression will be brought to justice. Canada supports Ukraine," said Melanie Jolie.
