Hundreds of billions of dollars will be needed to rebuild Ukraine’s economy after the war, - National Bank

The Ukrainian economy has halved due to the Russian invasion, the Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, Serhiy Nikolaichuk, said during the interview for Bloomberg.

“We are trying to control our financial system, but preliminary calculations show that our daily GDP now is only half of what it was in peacetime,” Nikolaichuk said.

According to him, the difficult economic situation has a negative impact on the public finances and reserves of the NBU. That is why Ukraine definitely needs support from the international community.

Nikolaichuk suggested that Ukraine will need hundreds of billions of dollars to rebuild its economy and return to everyday life after the war.

Let us remind that the Administration of the U.S. President Joe Biden is asking Congress to approve the allocation of $10 billion of aid to Ukraine.

The European Union has signed with Ukraine a Memorandum on 1.2 billion euros macro-financial aid.
