The Russian forces that invaded Ukraine include many former Ukrainian servicemen who betrayed their oath in 2014 and sided with the enemy. Many of them have already been taken prisoner.
This was reported by the SBU on its official Facebook page.
"This major, the deputy battalion commander, is a citizen of Ukraine. In 2014, during the annexation of the Crimea, as a serviceman of the Navy, he sided with the enemy. He betrayed his oath and enlisted in the Russian Armed Forces. In March 2014, he received a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation, and in 2020 he was awarded the title of a combat veteran. The traitor was taken prisoner in Ukraine in the Zhytomyr region. Now he will have to answer not only for the war, but also for his treason in 2014." - SBU statement.
Earlier, prisoners claim that desertion becomes a mass phenomenon among the Russian military.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has prepared instructions for Russians on how to surrender properly.
