Occupiers abduct mayor of Melitopol (updated)

Ukrainian authorities have information on the abduction of the mayor of the captured Melitopol, Ivan Fedorov. The information needs corroboration, the deputy head of the President’s Office, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, reported. 

“According to the preliminary information, the occupiers abducted the mayor of Melitopol, Ivan Fedorov an hour ago,” Tymoshenko wrote on Telegram. 

Two hours earlier, Ivan Fedorov posted on Facebook a thank you to the Melitopol entrepreneurs who helped those who need it the most. 

The adviser of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also reported about the abduction of the mayor of Melitopol by the occupiers. 

“Right now in Melitopol, a group of ten occupiers abducted the mayor of the town, Ivan Fedorov, who refused to cooperate with the enemy. During the abduction, they put a plastic bag over his head. The enemy detained him in the city crisis center, where he dealt with life support for the Ukrainian city. There was a Ukrainian flag standing in Ivan Fedorov’s cabinet.” Heraschenko wrote. 

Update: The deputy head of the President’s Office, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, released a video confirmation of the abduction of the mayor of Melitopol by the occupiers. 

As reported, occupiers block Internet and cell reception in Melitopol. The Russian military has repeatedly captured the TV and radio towers. City and state authorities can not control the content that is broadcast on TV and radio in the city. 

On March 4 in Melitopol, the invaders captured the TV tower and broadcasted Russian TV. Locals went out on the streets with national flags and marched for Ukraine. They shouted to the occupiers, “Melitopol is Ukraine,” “Shame,” “Glory to Ukraine,” “Glory to the Heroes,” “Death to the enemies,” etc.

The day before in Melitopol, Russian TV channels put on a play, showing how the locals allegedly are welcome in the city. In reality, people met the occupiers with Ukrainian flags and shouting, “Go home!”
