At least 1,582 civilians in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol have been killed as a result of Russian ruthless shelling of residential areas and a 12-day blockade, the City Council’s press service said in its statement.

“Rest in peace those killed in this terrible war. Every Russian occupier shall burn in hell. We will never forget and will never forgive this crime against humanity, against Ukraine, against Mariupol!” the statement said.

Yesterday afternoon, the Russian troops continued shelling residential areas of Mariupol. The building of the Pre-Azov State Technical University in the city center was hit by Russian shelling. Air bombing was also recorded near the Drama Theater.

On 9 March, Russian artillery strikes were carried out targeting a maternity and children’s hospital. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed that the bombing of the hospital and maternity hospital was a conscious and purposeful decision of the Russian army.
