The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy offers to hold negotiations with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin in Jerusalem, with the mediation of the Prime Minister of Israel Naftali Bennett. This was announced during his briefing with journalists.
“Concerning Israel and the mediation of mister Bennett… our attitude is positive. I believe that mister Bennett can play an important role. We have talked with him, and I told him that right now, meeting in Russia, Ukraine or Belarus is not right, not constructive. These are not the spots where we can find any understanding and stop the war. I’m not talking about technical meetings, I mean meetings of leaders,” Zelenskyy noted.
The President of Ukraine thinks that Israel could be a party to the treaty about security guarantees for Ukraine.
“When we are talking about security guarantees and which countries must be the parties of such a treaty, do I think that Israel must be among them? Yes, I definitely do,” he says, adding that Israel has a rich history and a lot of parallels with the history of Ukraine.
As a reminder, in recent days Bennett has been trying to play a role of the mediator between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. He has been to Moscow, where he held negotiations with Vladimir Putin, and repeatedly talked with Zelenskyy over the phone. However, these efforts didn’t bring any particular result.
