Russian troops have killed American journalist Brent Renaud in Irpin near Kyiv, the head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv Region, Andriy Nebytov, has said.
"The occupiers are cynically killing even journalists from the international media who are trying to show the truth about the outrageous acts of Russian troops in Ukraine. A 51-year-old correspondent of the world-famous New York Times was shot dead on 13 March in Irpin. Another journalist was injured. Attempts are ongoing to take the victim out of the combat zone. Of course, the profession of a journalist involves risk, but US citizen Brent Renaud paid with his life for trying to cover the insidiousness, cruelty and ruthlessness of the aggressor," Nebytov wrote.
The second journalist, who was wounded by the occupiers, is currently in the Okhmatdyt hospital and is being treated.
As reported earlier, a correspondent for the Ukrainian service of Radio Liberty, Markiyan Kushnir, was wounded in Kyiv Region during a Russian shelling attack.
The car of Swiss journalist Guillaume Briquet was shot at by the Russian military near the village of Vodiano-Lorine in the area of Mykolayiv.
