The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the Ukrainian authorities had sent humanitarian aid to Mariupol in his address.
According to the president, the convoy remains at a two hour distance from Mariupol, but the Russians do not allow the Ukrainians to deliver the cargo.
"Today, the critical task is Mariupol. Our humanitarian cargo, our convoys, are two hours away from Mariupol. Only 80 kilometres. We are doing our best to overcome the occupiers' resistance. The Russians block the Orthodox Church priests who accompany this cargo with food, water, and medicine. Ukraine has sent 100 tons of essentials to its citizens. We are making all diplomatic efforts today to get the cargo there. Let's see if Moscow can hear it," Zelenskyy said.
Mariupol is on the verge of a humanitarian catastrophe. There is no food or drinking water in the city, while the occupiers are blocking entry to Mariupol for Ukrainian humanitarian convoys and are constantly shelling the town.
