Americans now Perceive Ukraine as Positively as France, Germany, Japan

The majority of Americans - 81% - believe that Ukraine is a friendly country for the United States.

This is informed by a survey by YouGov, an online poll company that tracks the opinions of registered US voters about dozens of countries since 2017, according to The New York Times.

This number is the same or even higher than that of many longtime US allies, such as France, Germany or Japan, the publication states. Only the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia received better results.

Voters of both the Democratic and Republican parties are equally positive about Ukraine.

The New York Times reminds that in September 2019, 36% of registered voters were not sure whether Ukraine was friendly or unfriendly. And only 41 percent called the nation friendly or an ally. Currently, only 10 percent are unsure whether Ukraine is friendly, which is less than in any other country.

At the same time, almost 70% of Americans consider Russia an enemy now. Russia is ahead of any other country in the poll, including North Korea and Iran.

It will be recalled that about 74% of Americans said that the United States and its NATO allies should close the sky over Ukraine from Russian airstrikes.

In turn, 62% of Ukrainians believe that military aid to Ukraine is insufficient.
