Ukrainian athlete Anastasia Merkushina changed her biathlon rifle to an assault rifle and went to defend her homeland.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported this.
"The flag of Ukraine has been raised in my honor many times. It is time to defend it and change the biathlon rifle to an assault rifle. Now the whole world is painted yellow and blue. Our flag has become a symbol of freedom and independence. Ukraine is now the border between peace and war. And I am proud to be a senior lieutenant of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. Glory to Ukraine!" the athlete said.
27-year-old Merkushyna joined the ranks of border guards. The famous biathlete has won the title of the world and European champion among juniors and participated in two Olympics. She won four medals at the Biathlon World Championships (one silver and three bronze). All of them were won in relays.
