Stefanchuk clarified his statement on the possible change of Ukraine's course towards joining NATO

The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk told the media "has taken out of context" his statement about NATO.

He stressed that only the parliament can decide on changes to the Constitution related to joining NATO. The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk wrote about this on his FB page.

"As for the information spread yesterday allegedly as my position regarding joining NATO, I was, am and will be one of the biggest advocates for European integration and Euro-Atlantic direction. And this is an internal moral imperative for me," he said.

He stressed that he always confirms this position not by his words but his deeds.

"Although, I will not keep it a secret: the position of some NATO member states on Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic prospects sincerely upsets me. Today Ukraine is trying to find the best option to guarantee its own security. Various options are being sought - both within existing formats and by creating new ones. Therefore, commenting on this issue on the air of #UAРазом, I proceeded from the fact that the participation of the parliament in the negotiation process is inevitable and decisive, "- said the Chairman of the parliament.

According to him, it is only the parliament that will approve all the proposals that will be submitted to it for consideration.

"And then the relevant decision will be made. According to all rules and regulations. But the decision will be made by the parliament. Therefore, I consider the "betrayal" taken out of context and actively disseminated through the information channels of some political forces as a hopeless and helpless attempt of some politicians to remind themselves. Some politicians are still using war for their PR."
