After reaching peace agreement, war with Russia will not end - Podoliak

It may take from three days to one and half weeks to resolve the disputes over some of the points of the potential agreement between Ukraine and Russia, “Liga” cites the interview of Mykhailo Podoliak, the adviser to the head of the President’s Office to wiadomosci.wp.pl

“After reaching peace, we will create a strong border and treat Russia as coldly as the country, which invaded our home to kill us, deserves,” Podoliak stated.

According to him, not only Russia and Ukraine are participating in the negotiations, but also - indirectly - out partners, Poland in particular.

Podoliak noted that in the agreement, Ukraine wants to write up a detailed specific plan for the withdrawal of Russian troops, “legally verify this and receive the support of our partners.”

After this, the adviser to the head of the President’s Office believes Russia “will have no other choice but to start the withdrawal of its Armed Forces immediately.”

“After signing the agreement, the Vienna Convention will enter into force for both parties. It clearly states that the peace agreement can be annulled if the fighting countries do not withdraw the troops from the enemy’s territory,” the official added.

According to him, to the first round of negotiations, Russia arrived with many wishes, most of which are now off the table, and “lately the Russian delegation has softened significantly.”

“Now they are judging the world around them much more objectively and are behaving very well. There is no blatancy and rudeness inherent to the Russian government. Of course, their worldview is distorted by their own propaganda: 70-80% of Russians, including those taking part in the negotiations process, believe the propaganda myths,” - Podoliak noted.

As for the result of the agreement, the negotiator says that it can only end a hot stage of the conflict “and allow us to move on to mourning all those killed and to rebuilding our country.”

“But I am not sure that this will end the war for Ukrainians…Russia was and is the aggressor. Expansion is the only ideology they have, and, of course, they will not give it up. We are sure that Putin will continue his Great Russian politics,” - Podoliak explained.

Earlier, Financial Times published a draft of the peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia. Podoliak called in nothing more than a draft, which shows the Russian positions, and said that the Ukrainian side confirmed only ceasefire, withdrawal of the troops, and safety guarantees from several countries.
