Dutch brewing giant Heineken has announced the removal of business its business from Russia on Monday.

Previously, the concern only has promised to suspend new investments in its Russian plants and export products. It was reported by Reuters.

"We have concluded that Heineken's ownership of the business in Russia is no longer sustainable and viable in the current environment," - the concern said in a statement.

There are 9 Heineken plants in Russia, producing products under local names, including "Zhigulevskoye", "Volga", "Stepan Razin" and others. After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the concern has announced that it would no longer sell or produce Heineken-branded beer in Russia, but the plants would continue to operate and produce drinks under local brands.

The concern will not receive any profit from transferring ownership of the Russian business. The 1,800 employees of the plants are promised to pay.

Reuters notes that the concern's decision to remove the business is expected to increase pressure on Danish competitor Carlsberg, which owns Russia's largest brewery, Baltika.

Ukrainian authorities urged world businesses to sever business ties with Russia. President Vladimir Zelensky has stressed in an address to the FRG that the occupiers should not receive a single euro.
