United States and its allies plan to strengthen sanctions against Russia to disrupt critical supply chains

The United States and its allies plan new sanctions on more sectors of Russia’s economy that are critical to sustaining its invasion of Ukraine, including supply chains, Deputy U.S. Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo said, as reported by Reuters.

Adeyemo, speaking in London on European trip to consult with allies on strengthening and enforcing sanctions to punish Russia, said that the broadening of these efforts was aimed at undermining “the Kremlin’s ability operate its war machine.”

“In addition to sanctioning companies in sectors that enable the Kremlin’s malign activities, we also plan to take actions to disrupt their critical supply chains,” Adeyemo said during the event at the analytical center Chatham House.

“Our goal is to use an integrated approach that includes export controls if destructive over time, and sanctions that are immediate,” he said, adding that they will also target alternative military suppliers used by Russia.

Let us remind that on 24 March the United States announced a new set of sanctions against the Russians in response to the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. All deputies of the Russian State Duma and 40 defense companies are subject to restrictive measures.
