Demining of russian cluster munitions near Kharkiv resulted in an explosion that killed three rescue sappers, including the commander of the pyrotechnic unit, stated Interior Minister Denis Monastyrsky and reported by RBC-Ukraine.

This tragic accident happened on Saturday night near Kharkiv.

"Three rescuers were killed during the demining ... Four were seriously injured. The commander of the pyrotechnics unit was among those killed," said the Minister.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs head clarified that part of the cluster munitions exploded during demining.

"There is ammunition that even experts are careful about, and even then, very tragic things happen," said Denis Monastyrsky.

He called on Ukrainians not to touch ammunition, mines, trip wires, and call professionals immediately.

Every day rescuers neutralize about 5,000 unexploded artillery and aerial bombs. The Ministry of Internal Affairs wants to step up these activities but lacks trained professionals.
