The commander of the Azov Regiment of the Ukrainian National Guard, Lt. Col. Denys Prokopenko, asked world leaders to organize an evacuation from Mariupol for civilians and wounded and killed soldiers.
This was reported by the Azov Regiment.
"No one believes the occupiers, so I urge politicians of the civilized world to organize a green corridor, provide security guarantees to immediately evacuate civilians, wounded and the bodies of killed soldiers, who should be buried with honors," Prokopenko stated.
Azov also published a video of civilians, including children, hiding from russian invaders at the Azovstal plant.
"Right now, there are hundreds of civilians at the Azovstal plant, including many children, women, the elderly, and families of Mariupol defenders. Beside the Ukrainian military, which continues to defend the city, they have found the only possible refuge. The russian occupiers are deliberately dropping bunker buster bombs here, firing missiles and all available artillery at their disposal, including from ships," said the commander of the Azov Regiment.
There are many civilians, including women and children, on the territory of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol. In total, about 100,000 people remain in the city, the head of the Mariupol patrol police Mikhail Vershinin previously claimed.
On Monday, April 18, Major Serhiy Volyna, commander of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade, which is now defending besieged Mariupol with Azov, wrote a letter to Pope Francis urging the pontiff to help evacuate the city's residents and "save them from Satan."
