The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Mevlut Cavusoglu, said that his country was ready to become a guarantor of Ukraine's security but noted that Turkey would not accept an analog of NATO's Article 5 as a guarantee.

This was reported by Hurriyet.

Cavusoglu said Ukraine had addressed several countries, including Turkey, the United States, Great Britain, and Canada asking them to become Ukraine's guarantors of security. In particular, Ukraine asked to legally bind the security guarantees, which should be similar in content and form to NATO Article 5.

"The United States, Great Britain, and Canada have rejected this aspect. Of course, Turkey does not accept it as well. There is no way Turkey could send its soldiers to Ukraine in case of a conflict. We are trying to understand which option of guarantees can be an effective alternative," said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.

Article 5 of the NATO Chapter about collective defense says that an armed attack on one ally is considered an act of violence against all NATO members.

Ukraine has suggested legally confirming its status as a nuclear-free and non-aligned state that will stay neutral permanently if several states - the same way Article 5 of NATO Chapter says - legally guarantee prompt military assistance, armaments, and closing of the airspace over Ukraine in case of military aggression, attack, or any operation.
