President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on Russia's refusal of the "Easter truce".

He mentioned that in his evening address.

"Unfortunately, russia turned down the offer to establish an Easter truce. It demonstrates very well how the real attitude of that state's leaders toward the Christian faith. And toward one of the most joyous and important holidays," – Zelenskyy said.

"But we don't lose hope. Hope for peace, hope that life will prevail over death. Tomorrow it's Good Friday for the Christians of Eastern Rite. The saddest day of the year. The day when everything one can do in life means less than a prayer. Except for one thing… Except for protecting Homeland. Except for protecting one's comrades on a battlefield," – President added.

The UN General Secretary Antonio Guterres called to organize an "Easter truce", stop the bloodshed, and "open a window for dialogue and peace". The Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba asked russia to hear the UN General Secretary and answer his offer.

Previously, Pope Francis has also called for the Easter truce that would facilitate the negotiation and peace.

Russia refused the "Easter truce", and the leadership of the aggressor country explained the call for it by "Kyiv nationalists willing to get a break" and "spread more fake news about russian soldiers".

Occupiers are also spreading reports about "shelling of the Orthodox churches on Easter eve by nationalists''. It is allegedly supposed to happen in five regions: the Zaporizhzhya, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions. Given this, the Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Epiphanius gave his blessing to change Easter services schedules.
