The Czech Republic has applied to replace Russia in the UN Human Rights Council.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country stated this information on its Twitter account.
"Russia must be held responsible for its aggression, suffering of people, and destruction in Ukraine. Therefore, her membership in the UN Human Rights Council was suspended, "the statement said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that human rights protection is a priority of the Czech Republic government.

The UN Human Rights Council is an international human rights body within the UN system. It was created in 2006 based on the Commission on Human Rights, operating from 1946 till 2006.
On 7 April 2022, the United Nations General Assembly suspended the russian federation's participation in the Human Rights Council. The reason for the resolution was gross human rights violations in the city of Bucha in the Kyiv region.
On 16 March 2022, russia was expelled from the Council of Europe. Withdrawal from this organization denounces the European Convention on Human Rights.
