United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced, that Washington is considering recognizing russia as a state sponsor of terrorism, DW reports.
“We’re looking at that… There’s no doubt in my mind, that russians are terrorizing the Ukrainian people. The question is this—and again, this is something that the lawyers are looking at—to make sure that we actually meet the statutory requirements of that designation”, he said at the meeting of the Senate committee (upper house of Congress) of the United States.
Blinken left unanswered the question of whether it would be necessary to change the law so that russia would meet those requirements.
To list a country as a sponsor of terrorism, the US Secretary of State must determine that the government of this country ‘has repeatedly supported acts of international terrorism. By now the United States designated four state sponsors of terrorism: Cuba, North Korea, Iran, and Syria.
