In an interview with Polish media, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that international partners had offered Ukraine to transfer the Zaporizhia NPP to Russian control. However, Ukraine refused. This was reported by UNIAN.
"We refused because when our specialists are there, we are responsible, and if there are russian specialists, we cannot be responsible for such a nuclear facility. And so today we are technically in control of the situation, but it is relative because of the presence of the militias," Zelensky said.
He also added that the IAEA representatives first stated that there were no hits on ZNPP, but this is not the case.
"They hit the nuclear block, but there is a strong enough defense ... However, the significant threat remains, because today part of the nuclear power plant ... is occupied by the russian military," - said Zelenskyy.
The President of Ukraine added that Rosatom employees are currently at the station, but the company is hiding it. At the same time, their specialists have already tried to return to russia under various pretexts. Ukraine is currently awaiting the unblocking of ZNPP.
During the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the occupiers seized two nuclear facilities - the Chornobyl and Zaporizhia nuclear power plants. On the evening of March 31, it became known that the invaders had left the territory of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. They took with them the National Guard, who had been in captivity since the Russian invasion on February 24.
During the shelling of ZNPP, Russian invaders damaged several facilities on its territory, causing damage estimated at 18.3 billion hryvnias.
