After the withdrawal of the UN column, Russian troops resumed the assault on Azovstal: they attempted to break through the bridge, which was used for the evacuation of civilians, as reported by the adviser to the mayor of Mariupol Petro Andryushchenko in Telegram.

“Mariupol. As expected, after the UN column left the Donetsk region, the russian occupiers began storming Azovstal. In particular, they tried to break through the bridge, which was used as the evacuation gate. They failed” he wrote. The adviser to the mayor of Mariupol added that it is difficult to understand how the Azov fighters manage to repel numerous enemy attacks.

“I sincerely hope that we will be able to save all the defenders. We are all deeply indebted to them,” Andryushchenko said.

Yesterday, 173 people were evacuated from the Azovstal Mariupol Steel Plant and other communities near Mariupol.

On 7 May, Deputy Prime Minister and Reintegration Minister, Iryna Vereshchuk, announced the evacuation of all women, children and the elderly from the plant.
