US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the embassy in Kyiv will resume full-fledged work in the nearest future. Because of the war, diplomats worked in Poland.

In his statement, Blinken expressed his belief that a sovereign and independent Ukraine will endure.

"And we know that by supporting Ukraine, we are also defending the principles of sovereignty and independence that underpin global peace and security. Our partnership with the people of Ukraine is also strong. American diplomats have returned to Ukraine after several weeks in Poland. We are reopening our embassy in Kyiv - we are taking all necessary security precautions, but this work is continuing - and we will resume operations very soon," he said.

Blinken added that US President Joe Biden has nominated Bridget Brink as US Ambassador to Ukraine. Her candidacy must be approved by the Senate. The United States has not had an ambassador to Ukraine since June 2019 - the country was represented by temporary attorneys.

On February 13, the US Embassy in Ukraine was evacuated to Lviv. Later, diplomats worked in Poland. In early May, US Chargé d'Affaires Christina Quinn said the embassy was expected to resume operations in the Ukrainian capital later this month.
