The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine will cooperate with the Norwegian People’s Aid [NPA] on humanitarian demining.
This was announced by Deputy Interior Minister Mary Hakobyan during a meeting with Ambassador of Norway to Ukraine Eric Svedal and a representative of Norwegian People’s Aid Alberto Serra.
“The issue of humanitarian demining of the occupied territories is one of the priority areas of activity of bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. Given the scale of the affected areas, the estimated period of demining will be approximately 5-7 years. In this regard, there is an urgent need to attract international assistance - special pyrotechnic equipment, sending explosives specialists, "- said Hakobyan.
Therefore, the parties agreed to cooperate with the organization, which opens its representative office in Ukraine.
The NPA is an international organization based in Norway and more than 30 countries, with the main goal of providing post-conflict reconstruction and humanitarian assistance during conflicts.
The organization's international activities cover three main areas: mine action and disarmament, development and humanitarian assistance.
"In the context of mine action, the organization specializes in training rescue cynologists and training minesweeping dogs, which have proven effective in demining areas in Iraq, Cambodia, Bosnia and Herzegovina," said Alberto Serra.
This week the United States of America provided $4 million in new support to the British non-governmental organization Halo Trust to help Ukraine demine the territory.
