Activists from Ukraine and Europe organized an event against the energy business that still operates in russia.
"Russia has unleashed the most brutal and bloodiest war of the 21st century. Russia has been destroying Ukraine for three months. Dozens of thousands of people have been killed, and hundreds of towns and villages have been destroyed. However, russia continues to receive funding to continue the bloody war. Since 24 February 2022, russia has received more than 63bn euros, and russians use every penny of this sum to kill innocent Ukrainians. This money is enough to purchase almost 8,400 "Kalibr" cruise missiles." - reads the statement of Stop Bloody Energy activists.
The activists address international businesses and energy companies to stop working in russia and stop funding russian terror. At the Davos Economic Forum, activists organized a "Time to Choose Your Way" event, asking companies: "Money or life?"
There was also a performance by Ukrainian artist Daria Koltsova "Lullaby," - the representation of statistics on Ukrainian children killed during the three months of the war to "sing" the last lullaby and release the lives of every Ukrainian child taken by russia.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, attended the performance. "We are convinced that the only way to stop the war, stop russian aggression, is to deprive the Kremlin of funding it needs to continue killing Ukrainians. Business must leave russia now, starting with the energy sector," - said Kuleba.
Kuleba continued: "russia does not have its own technical capacity to extract and transport oil, gas, and coal. Therefore, it needs cooperation with the energy sector. Refusal to cooperate will show russia that it is on its own and will deprive it of the funding it needs."
The economists' evaluation shows that in 2022 russia's export earnings from energy resources sales could reach $ 321bn. This is almost 5 of russia's annual military budget. The organizers of the event emphasize that if energy cooperation is stopped, russia will lose its primary source of income and will not be able to continue the war. The complete list of companies still working in russia's energy sector can be found here. The buyers of russian oil from Asia use all sorts of creativity to support supply flows from russia. However, more and more shipowners are avoiding transporting russian oil not to face the potential consequences of sanctions.
