Dmytro Kozatskyy ("Orest"), defender of Mariupol, received a special award from the prestigious Polish photo award Grand Press Photo 2022, Ukrinform reports.

The jury awarded the prize for photos of Mariupol under siege of the Russian occupiers.

According to Weronika Mirowska, the Head of the Grand Press Foundation, everyone believes that "Orest" "will receive this diploma in person during the competition next year.

"We will wait for him, alive and healthy," Ms. Mirowska said.

The photo of Wojciech Gzędzinski, the Washington Post photojournalist, which also deals with the war in Ukraine, won the competition.

The photo showed Iryna Manyukina, the Ukrainian woman, playing the piano in her apartment in Bila Tserkva, which was destroyed by an air bomb.

Among the winners of the Polish award, there were several other photojournalists, who also sent to the competition photos taken during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

To remind, on May 20 Dmytro Kozatskyy posted on a social network the last photo from Azovstal plant. He pointed out that while he is in captivity, he will make "photos in the best quality. Please send them to all journalistic awards and photo contests, if I win something, it will be very nice after my liberation."
