Berlin is closely following the successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the east and south and is delighted with the offensive of the Ukrainian military, the German Ambassador to Ukraine Anka Feldhusen announced in an interview with Radio NV.
“We all in Berlin watched and were delighted with the offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the east and south,” she said.
She also said that Berlin is still discussing the possible supply of western tanks to Ukraine.
"This discussion is going on. You have heard our Chancellor more than once, who said that he is in close contact with partners - the United States, Great Britain and France - on this mathematics ... There is no end to this discussion yet, but I hope that it will end successfully and positively for Ukraine ", Feldhusen added.
At the end of August, Scholz promised that Germany would send new weapons to Ukraine in the coming weeks. In addition, Berlin can take on the responsibility of providing Ukraine with certain types of weapons.
Scholz also said that in the matter of supplying weapons to Ukraine, Germany would adhere to the principle: not to transfer weapons from which it is possible to shell the territory of russia.
At the same time, the chancellor opposed the supply of Western-style tanks to Ukraine, pointing out that even major NATO partners do not supply tanks directly, and that Germany does not want to do it itself.
Thus, according to German media reports, Scholz rejected the request of Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal for the supply of additional heavy weapons. It was, in particular, about the supply of Leopard 2.
After Ukraine's significant success in returning the territories of Kharkiv Region, German political parties, including coalition ones, demand that the government strengthen support for Ukraine with weapons. In particular, to transfer the indicated tanks and Marder infantry combat vehicles.
