Around 23,000 Hasidic pilgrims visit Uman for Rosh Hashanah

Earlier, the SBU and the National Police recommended that Hasidim refrain from visiting Ukraine for security reasons.

Hasidim continue to arrive in Uman, Cherkasy Region, to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, or Jewish New Year.

According to the United Jewish Community of Ukraine, as of the morning of 25 September, more than 23,000 pilgrims have already arrived in Uman.

Hasidim will celebrate Rosh Hashanah from 25 to 27 September.

Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the National Police recommended that Hasidic pilgrims refrain from visiting Ukraine, as Russia may the occasion to arrange provocations.

In Uman, the sale of alcohol is banned during the Hasidic pilgrimage. Also at the entrance to the city there are already five checkpoints where documents and vehicles are checked. Also, 21 shelters have been prepared in case of air alerts.
