Ukrainian Foreign Ministry: "Putin's regime has lost its chance to negotiate"

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Russia 1 that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy "may change his mind at any time" and start negotiations with Russia.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reacted to this statement.

"Lavrov's interview on Russia 1 demonstrates the helplessness of Russian diplomacy. Having become an outcast abroad, the Russian foreign minister has no choice but to play the role of a propagandist for domestic audience. Of all the things he said in the interview, only the next attacks on the president of Ukraine deserve a response. No matter how hard the Russian leadership tries, it cannot break the will of the Ukrainian leader. It is going mad because of its weakness, and therefore spreads nonsense about the 'instructions' from Washington and London," Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko said on Facebook.

He added that the Putin regime had lost its chance for negotiations.

"There can be no negotiations with terrorists. This is a common world practice. As Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already noted, Ukraine will negotiate with Russia under a different Russian president, and obviously under a different foreign minister. And there are many more interviews ahead for Lavrov - in The Hague, Bucha, Mariupol or in another city that will be determined as the venue for a tribunal of Russian war criminals," Nikolenko said.

On 30 September, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine was ready for dialogue with Russia, but with a different president. On 4 October, by his decree, he stated the impossibility of holding talks with Putin.
