In the coming weeks, the United States intends to provide Ukraine with direct budget support of 4.5 billion dollars - U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen stated before a meeting with Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko, Reuters reports.
It is noted that Congress approved this funding two weeks ago, thus, the total direct budgetary support of Ukraine from the United States will amount to 13.5 billion dollars in the form of grants.
"We're committed to getting this funding to you as soon as possible because we know how important it is in supporting your brave resistance to Russia’s illegal invasion," Yellen said.
According to her, Washington also joined Ukraine's major creditors by suspending the country's bilateral debt service payments this year and next year.
