As a result of shelling by the Russian military, the last communication line of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) with the power grid shut down, the press service of Enerhoatom reports on Telegram.
"The Russian terrorists have changed their tactics and are now trying to blackmail Ukraine and the whole world with missile attacks on remote substations that power the ZNPP. Thus, today, on 17 October, Russian terrorists once again shelled critical infrastructure substations on the territory controlled by Ukraine, as a result of which at 03:59 the last 750 kV ZNPP - Dniprovska communication line was disconnected," the statement reads.
In the transitional process, due to a short-term voltage drop, the ZNPP auxiliary transformer shut down and diesel generators were launched.
In addition, the 750 kV communication line South Ukrainian NPP - Dnipro NPP was disconnected, but without affecting the load of South Ukrainian NPP.
"We once again appeal to the international community to take immediate measures to demilitarize ZNPP as soon as possible, withdraw all Russian military from the territory of the plant and the city of Enerhodar, and return Zaporizhzhya NPP under full control of Ukraine for the sake of the safety of the whole world", Enerhoatom stressed.
Earlier, Enerрoatom stressed that constant power outages at ZNPP could lead to a second Fukushima.
Currently, all six reactors of Zaporizhzhya NPP are shut down. In recent days, plant generators have already been launched twice due to the outage of external and backup power supply to the plant.
