The money was provided to Ukraine in the form of very concessional loans with longer repayment terms than under the regular program. As a sign of solidarity, the EU budget will cover the interest on these loans.
The European Commission has already disbursed EUR 600 million to Ukraine in March and May, EUR 1 billion in October and EUR 2.5 billion in November.
On 9 November, the European Commission announced a plan to provide Ukraine with regular macro-financial assistance of up to EUR 1.5 billion per month. The total amount of aid in 2023 is EUR 18 billion.
