Over the past two days, Ukraine's air defence shot down all 100% of the drones launched by the enemy - 84 units, Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat said during a telethon.

"We have never achieved such results before," he said.

Since 11 September, Ukrainians have shot down about 500 enemy drones.

Ihnat emphasized that the enemy should not be underestimated. Russians seek to deplete people and air defence equipment, to reduce the stock of Ukrainian anti-aircraft missiles.

"But there is no other solution. Even fighter jets are taking to the air to shoot down these UAVs," he said.

Ihnat called to boost the provision of air defence systems to Ukraine, as they are very effective. At the same time, he noted that it is impossible to create a protective "dome" over the whole country, only certain objects and areas can be covered. The rest should be protected by the prompt deployment of fighter jets.

"We need new modern aircraft that have the latest radars, the latest missiles," Ihnat said.

According to him, it would be best to provide Ukraine with F16 aircraft, but air defence systems such as IRIS-T and Patriot are also necessary for protection.

After the missile strike on 31 December, the Russians carried out two night attacks with Iranian drones: 1 and 2 January. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the enemy would continue to strike with UAVs and aimed to deplete air defence.
