Poland has delivered the first four Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, Ukrinform has reported.

"Today we are announcing the first tanks from Poland," President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a joint press conference with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Kyiv.

According to him, it is important that the first Leopard tanks provided to Ukraine came from Poland.

He emphasized that Polish tanks would strengthen Ukrainian defence.

He recalled that Poland was one of the founders of the tank coalition for Ukraine.

"We will do everything to make this new tank start a powerful movement. I am grateful to all our partners who have already joined or will join," he added.

"Today, as the first European country, I would like to symbolically hand over to you, Volodymyr, the first four Polish Leopard 2 A4 tanks. These are tanks that will undoubtedly perfectly complement the ranks on the battlefield and will prove themselves worthy," Morawiecki said.

He added that Poland would soon hand over another set of tanks.

He noted that Warsaw was convincing its EU and NATO partners to also provide Leopard 2s to Ukraine.

He presented Zelenskyy with a symbolic confirmation of the transfer of tanks, noting that Poland is successfully building a "coalition of several countries" that will provide Ukraine with these vehicles.

In addition, in the coming days, Poland will hand over 60 more post-Soviet tanks to Ukraine, including PT-91 Twardy.
