Poland will send the first German Leopard tanks to Ukraine today, Bloomberg reports, citing an official who requested anonymity.

The number of tanks to be delivered in the first batch has not been disclosed. In total, the country has committed to provide at least 14 Leopards to Ukraine.

The first shipment is expected to be officially announced by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who arrived in Kyiv today, for the anniversary of Russia's invasion.

It was Poland that first agreed to send modern German tanks to Ukraine. During his visit to Lviv, Polish President Andrzej Duda said his country was ready for such a supply as part of an international coalition. Re-exportation required German consent, so it was impossible to deliver the Leopard before Berlin's approval.

In addition to Germany and Poland, Spain and other countries promised to supply German tanks. Together with the U.S. and British tanks, Ukraine is to receive about 700 modern tanks.
