The Slovak government has approved the transfer of MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. The country will supply 13 Soviet-era aircraft to boost Ukraine's defence forces, Bloomberg reports.

The eastern NATO member state's MiG-29 aircraft are in varying degrees of readiness. All of them have been grounded since August following the termination of the maintenance agreement with Russia.

Slovakia announced the transfer of fighter jets the day after Poland announced a similar decision. Warsaw may transfer four aircraft to Kyiv.

After Ukraine won approval for the transfer of modern tanks, the issue of fighter jets became one of its top priorities. However, the United States is not yet going to provide Ukrainians with its F-16s.
