The leaked military documents contain a lot of information that is not true while the information that is true has largely lost its relevance, Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov has said at a joint briefing with his Spanish counterpart Margarita Robles.
"The information that is true has lost its relevance. That is, it is a mix of truth and lies. So, my guess is that this action was done on purpose. I call it a special information and psychological operation. The beneficiary of this operation, of course, is Russia and its allies and supporters," he said.
The aim of the operation is to undermine trust between partners, primarily the United States.
"I am convinced that our American friends will do everything to find the source of the leak and prevent such situations in the future," he added.
Leaked military documents allegedly belonging to US intelligence agencies have been published online. Some of the information was falsified, with Russian losses being underestimated and Ukrainian losses being overstated. The documents also suggest the depletion of Ukrainian air defences, the Americans' lack of faith in the success of the Ukrainian counteroffensive due to a lack of troops and weapons, and surveillance of US allies. The authenticity of the documents is being checked, but some of them, according to Western newspapers, are genuine. The USA is investigating the sources of the leak.
