Ukrainian intelligence has identified the Russian who executed a Ukrainian prisoner, according to the chief of the Defence Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov.
"Somehow it happened that almost all of those who did such things, where it was clearly known to us, no longer exist. So, I don't think this person will be an exception," Budanov added.
When asked whether the intelligence "helped" in this, he replied: "It just happened so."
However, the intelligence chief did not say where the Russian war criminal is now.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called on the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to immediately pay attention to the execution of a Ukrainian prisoner by Russians.
Earlier, the president of Ukraine, the head of the presidential office and the foreign minister reacted to the execution of a Ukrainian prisoner by Russia.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said: "We are not going to forget anything and forgive the killers... The world must see. This is a video of Russia as it is." Other representatives of the Ukrainian authorities called for, among other things, the expulsion of Russia from the UN Security Council.
The Security Service of Ukraine has launched a pre-trial investigation into the brutal murder. "We will find these inhumans. If necessary, we will get them wherever they are: from underground or from the afterlife. But they will definitely be punished for what they have done," said SBU chief Vasyl Malyuk.
This is not the first time that Russians have published videos of inhumane treatment of Ukrainian prisoners. In February, a video was released of an unarmed Ukrainian soldier, later identified as Oleksandr Matsiyevskyy, who was shot dead on camera. The Russians shot him after he said "Glory to Ukraine!". President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posthumously awarded Matsiyevskyy the title of Hero of Ukraine.
