Oleh Barna, a member of the Ukrainian parliament of the eighth convocation, was killed in action, Col Oleksiy Dmytrashkivskyy, head of the joint press centre of the Tavriya defence forces, has said on Facebook.
According to the co-chair of the European Solidarity faction, Iryna Herashchenko, Barna fought near Vuhledar.
Barna is a native of the village of Nahiryanka, Chortkiv District, Ternopil Region. He worked as a teacher and headed the Nahiryanka village council for two terms.
He was an active participant in Euromaidan. When the ATO began, he volunteered for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, fought in the 128th Separate Mountain Infantry Brigade and was a mortar commander.
In the 2014 elections, he was elected to parliament from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc. He was the chairman of the subcommittee on control over compliance with legislation in the field of preventing and combating corruption by legal entities of the parliamentary committee on preventing and combating corruption. His younger brother, Stepan Barna, was the head of the Ternopil regional state administration.
According to Oleh's Facebook page, he fought in the 68th Separate Chausseur Brigade named after Oleksa Dovbush.
