As a result of Russian shelling of Ukraine, a forest fire has started in Chernihiv Region, the state company Forests of Ukraine has said.
Currently, the fire is burning in two places on the territory of the Semenivka forestry, at a distance of no more than 4 km to the state border near the village of Bleshnya and near the village of Mkhy. The distance between the fires is about 2.5 km.
Residents of these settlements were evacuated earlier due to the hostilities, but the fire could spread to the settlements of Orlykivka and Baranivka, where people are currently living.
"Due to the active hostilities, it is impossible to determine the area of the fire. Foresters of the branch are trying to stop the fire, create mineralised strips near the settlements and set up natural barriers to the spread of the fire," the company said.
