Germany has no intention of joining the coalition to supply Western fighter jets to Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said, Tagesshau reports.
In particular, when asked whether Germany would participate in the planned international "aviation coalition", the chancellor said that "the question is not so relevant".
Scholz said that Germany is concentrating on tanks, ammunition, the creation of a "functioning repair system" and air defence. He stressed that these things are "very important" for Ukraine's ability to defend itself and Germany has already made further commitments in these areas.
He also said that no-one is putting pressure on Germany in the discussion about supplying aircraft to Ukraine.
Earlier, the prime ministers of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, and the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, have agreed to work on the creation of an international coalition of fighter jets.
