Russian troops continue to focus their main efforts on the Kupyansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiyivka and Maryinka sectors. In total, 16 combat engagements took place in the above-mentioned areas over the last day, with Bakhmut and Maryinka remaining in the epicentre of hostilities, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has said.

No missile strikes were reported during the day on 23 May. However, Russian troops launched 25 air strikes and more than 20 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. The attacks have killed and wounded civilians, damaged private residential buildings and administrative infrastructure.

The likelihood of missile and air strikes across Ukraine remains high, the General Staff warned.

On 23 May, the Ukrainian Air Force launched 14 air strikes on the clusters of Russian troops and military equipment, including three air strikes on the anti-aircraft missile systems.

Four Russian Shahed combat UAVs were intercepted.

The Ukrainian missile and artillery troops hit three command posts, four clusters of weapons and military equipment, one ammunition depot, two artillery units at their firing positions, and three other important targets.
