Ukraine needs 50 Patriot batteries to protect itself from Russian attacks, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said, The Wall Street Journal reports.
He stressed that the US Patriot system is the only weapon that can currently shoot down some types of Russian missiles.
"Today, the only weapon that can stop some types of Russian missiles that it uses against our civilian population, schools, infrastructure, and energy system is the Patriot," the president said.
He noted that the presence of Patriot in Ukraine prevents Russia from intimidating tens of millions of civilians.
"The reality is as follows: 50 Patriot batteries - and most people will not die," Zelenskyy added.
