In the Bakhmut sector, the Ukrainian military managed to advance up to 1,400 metres in different areas over the last day, Col Serhiy Cherevatyy, spokesman for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Eastern sector, has told the telethon.
"Over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian troops managed to advance up to 1,400 metres in various areas," he said.
He stressed that Ukrainian troops are counterattacking, taking advantage of the fact that the Russians were rotating. At the same time, he noted that Russian troops are trying to hit Ukrainian units: they carried out eight air strikes and fired 330 times with cannon and rocket artillery.
"In total, there were six engagements, during which our Defence Forces killed 138 occupiers, 236 were wounded and one was taken prisoner. They also destroyed a Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, three armoured vehicles, a D-30 howitzer, a S-60 anti-aircraft gun, a ZALA unmanned aerial vehicle, eight ammunition depots and seven vehicles that transported ammunition and weapons," Cherevatyy said.
The colonel said that the enemy is trying to build up its defences and there were attempts to counterattack Ukrainian positions, but all these attempts failed. Cherevatyy stressed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have already taken a number of heights.
According to Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Malyar, Russia is gathering reserves in the Bakhmut sector and trying to hold their positions. It is making attempts to attack, but fails. Our defenders are currently engaged in active combat in several areas of the Bakhmut sector.
