The Wagner PMC militants who arrived in Belarus do not pose a threat to Ukraine at the moment, but the situation may change, Andriy Demchenko, a spokesman for the State Border Service of Ukraine, has told the telethon.
"Our intelligence is currently monitoring the presence of certain groups of mercenaries in Belarus, but we are not talking about any massive or large-scale deployment of PMC representatives. We are talking about several hundred, who are then deployed in the places that have been prepared," the spokesman said.
He added that border guards continue to monitor the movement of Wagner members in Belarus.
"That number does not pose any threat to Ukraine in terms of a strike group being created. However, of course, Belarus can use them for more serious things. For example, to destabilise the situation on the border with Ukraine or other countries," Demchenko said.
According to British intelligence, temporary agreements on the future of the Wagner PMC have been formed in Russia in recent days.
The monitoring group Belaruski Hayun reported that there may be about 200 Wagner members in Belarus. By agreement with self-proclaimed Belarusian president Alyaksandr Lukashenka, after the coup in Russia, Wagner's leader Prigozhin was to go to Belarus.
