The Romanian Ministry of Defence commented on the attack by Russian attack drones on Odesa Region as several drones crashed in the country. This is stated on the ministry's website.
"The press service of the Ministry of Defence provides the following clarifications on the security situation near the Romanian border in the context of recent attacks by the armed forces of the Russian Federation on the infrastructure of the Ukrainian seaport of Reni. The Ministry of National Defence strongly condemns the attacks on Ukrainian facilities and civilian infrastructure, considers them unjustified and violating all international humanitarian rules," the Ministry of Defence emphasised.
It is noted that the responsible structures monitored the situation caused by Russian drone attacks in real time. However, these attacks "did not pose a direct military threat to the territory or territorial waters of Romania."
"The Ministry of National Defence continues to implement enhanced vigilance measures in land, sea and airspace, as well as measures designed to strengthen defence and deterrence on the eastern flank, in accordance with the national and Alliance plans," the ministry added.
Overnight of 4 September, Russians attacked Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk regions with attack drones from the southern and southeastern directions (Cape Chauda, Crimea, and Prymorsko-Akhtarsk). A total of 32 "Shaheds" were launched. Ukrainian air defence forces destroyed 23 drones.
In Odesa Region, 17 drones were shot down by air defence forces. Unfortunately, there were hits. In addition, according to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, during a massive attack near the port of Izmail, Russian "Shaheds" fell and detonated in Romania.
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry emphasised that this is yet another confirmation that Russian missile terror poses a huge threat not only to Ukraine's security, but also to the security of neighbouring countries, including NATO member states. The MFA also called on partners to speed up the provision of additional modern missile and air defence systems and combat aircraft to Ukraine.
