Former US Secretary of State and former CIA chief Michael R. Pompeo will become an independent non-executive director of the board of directors of Kyivstar, the company's press service has said.
According to Kyivstar, Pompeo joins as "a partner of Impact Investments, a newly established US-based strategic and financial advisory and investment firm that seeks to develop long-term partnerships with leading global companies across industries and regions."
The board will be headed by Kaan Terzioglu, CEO of VEON Group.
According to Terzioglu, VEON is investing $600 million in telecoms infrastructure and is completely leaving the Russian market.
Last month, the court seized all corporate rights in Ukraine owned by sanctioned Russian oligarchs Mikhail Fridman, Petr Aven and Andrey Kosogov.
The seized assets include 100% of Kyivstar, which is controlled by the oligarchs through the Dutch company VEON Ltd. and Healthy Ukraine LLC, which has medical data of most Ukrainians who have signed a declaration with their family doctor.
