Ukrenergo has become a full member of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E). The supreme governing body of ENTSO-E, the General Assembly, made this decision at its meeting today.
According to Ukrenergo, as of 1 January 2024, the Ukrainian power system operator will become the 40th full member of the association, thus making the company an equal participant in the European energy space.
This status is the next step towards the European integration of the Ukrainian power system. It became possible, in particular, after ENTSO-E announced the completion of the synchronisation project with Ukraine in November 2023 and confirmed the successful implementation by the Ukrainian operator of the key technical requirements necessary to ensure a permanent connection between the power systems of the continental ENTSO-E.
The Association of European TSOs said that they had been working with Ukrenergo to achieve this level of integration since 2017.
"ENTSO-E members are guided by a shared responsibility to ensure the energy transition and keep the lights on in Europe. By welcoming Ukrenergo as a member of the association, ENTSO-E's commitment to strengthening cooperation between TSOs at the pan-European level in order to improve the security, resilience and reliability of the integrated power system is emphasised," the official statement reads.
