Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has vetoed additional funds for Ukraine.
In a post on X, he said that the European Council would return to the issue next year. He also announced a veto on the revision of the MFF programme - the Multiannual Financial Framework.
"Results of the night shift: veto on additional money for Ukraine, veto on the revision of the MFF. We will return to this issue next year in the European Council after appropriate preparation," he wrote.
Negotiations between EU leaders on the allocation of €50 billion to Ukraine lasted until late at night. It was not only about money for Ukraine, but also about spending on migration programmes and other issues.
"Only one state could not agree to this decision... The other 26 leaders agreed to this 'mega-package', including Sweden, whose prime minister has to discuss this decision with the parliament according to internal procedures, but I expect he will join the others afterwards," the UP quoted European Council President Charles Michel as saying.
